Afternoon Passage
Mixed Media Painting on Arches 300 LD CP Paper
Image sizes (19h x 27w)
I was taking a bike ride on a late afternoon on the bike trail in the woods when I road by this scene. The sun was very low in the sky causing an illumination behind the tree line. Beyond the field behind the trees when the sun was low in the sky. This caused the marsh to have a warm glow of illumination with a combination of subtle warm pastel tones highlighted with dramatic yellow reflections. The False Phlox common to the fields edge and lining the wooded area provide contrast in the late afternoon shadows. I have indicated in this piece in somewhat of an impressionists form. White Tailed Deer are a common site in this area on these trails. Therefore, I added one in the background slightly camouflaged in the high grasses and alders in the marsh.
