Vernal Pool

I pass this pool often while walking. This subject has been on my mind for awhile now. I felt compelled to finally paint it partly because of the state of the ever changing world that we live in today and because of my father.
When I was younger, I remember vividly Dad saying while standing in the kitchen of our house where I grew up in Vermont, holding up a glass of water that he poured from the faucet with a smile after he drank it, “Water, our most precious resource.”
I think I appreciate his words today more than ever. I’m proud to say that Dad served as the Superintendent of the water supply for our town for over 35 years. If he were alive today, I would thank him again for the great quality water he provided for our family from our spring fed well for many, many years.
I think perhaps this painting is indirectly an ode to him. Water is a resource that, quite frankly, I think a lot of society takes for granted. I believe it is our job as a human race to preserve it.
